| Born in Kilkenny, Ireland in
1834. Following his arrival in Newfoundland he was ordained to the Order
of Priest by Bishop John Thomas Mullock, in the Cathedral of St. John the
Baptist, St. John's, on April 15, 1860. His first priestly pastoral
appointment was curate in St. Patrick's Parish, Witless Bay, from
1862-1863; then in St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, St. Lawrence, from
1864-1865;(1861-1866 ?) When he was transferred to Holy Rosary Parish,
Argentia, where he laboured from 1866-1871; followed by an appointment in
Holy Apostles Parish, Fermeuse from 1871-1873; and St. Michael's Parish,
Bell Island, from 1875-1880.
