SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER: MAY 13TH , 2007

Mother’s Day:
Because God couldn’t be everywhere to look after our every single need, He sent us Mothers. While that may not be theologically correct, it is very close to the truth for most of us. When the ice comes in, everybody else seems to be getting summer and we are still waiting for Spring, I think we need a bright spot in our Calendar called Mother’s Day.
Mothers are the greatest unsung heroes. We need more than one day in a year to give her the gratitude and praise she deserves. Mothers don’t look for praise and yet they are powerful and deserving of appreciation. “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.” They have to be “Jills of all trades and masters of everything.” At Baptism the priest reminds us that parents are the first teachers of their children in the faith and they are the best teachers. Here are some of the things a mother teaches to show us how special we are:
Individuality: “I don’t care how many of your friends are getting their nose pierced, you’re not!”
Economics: “Money doesn’t grow on trees!”
Patience: “We’ll leave when I say we’ll leave!”
Weight Control: “Don’t you get too big for your britches!”
Respect for Authority: “You’ll do it because I say so, and I’m your Mother!”
How to Delegate: “Just you wait until your father gets home!”
Humility: “You are not half as cute as you think you are!”
Less is More: “Get upstairs and wipe that eye shadow, lipstick and eye-liner off your face!”
Magic: “I know, because I got eyes in the back of my head!”
Transcendental Meditation “You sit there until you figure out why you should have known better!”
Family Closeness: “If you can’t take your sister, you are not going!”
Faith: “You’d better pray your teacher doesn’t tell me you are involved in this racket!”
Protect The Things You Love: “If I find those toys (or shoes or c.d.’s) in the middle of the floor just one more time – They’ll disappear!”
Responsibility: “You broke the window, you dented the car! Now you fix it and you pay for it!”
Imagination: “Just pretend they are real diamond earrings!”
Infinity: “Whatever happens, I’ll always be your Mother!”
Discuss these at the family table and see how many you can add to the list. On this Mother’s Day don’t forget to add a Thanks to the Blessed Mother for giving us Jesus who understands us as much as any mother or father could possibly understand us and love us.
A Special Happy Mother’s Day to the Mothers who treat our Parish so well.

Today Catholics are invited to reflect upon the media of social communication (films, radio, television, newspapers, audio visuals) and how these influence our lives.
The media can promote values that lead to a more fully human society. The Church’s ministry is twofold. The media can be used to help promote the Gospel. At the same time, as receivers of the materials presented by the media, the faithful have a duty to support and promote worthwhile presentations on media and reject those which promote values contrary to spiritual growth.
