SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
JULY 22nd, 2007

Anxiousness and Worry
Today’s Gospel is very well known. Two sisters host Jesus in their home; one is attentive to the words of Jesus and one is attentive to the demands of making Jesus comfortable and welcome. Over the centuries, much has been made of these two seemingly contrasting stances. Some may say that Mary represents the contemplative side of our spiritual journey, while Martha represents the active side of our Christian call to mission. Martha and Mary represent the two sides of the one coin of the Christian life.
Many people today would probably identify with Martha the most. Many of us are anxious and worried about many things. We worry about the wars and terrorism. We worry about the poor and the elderly in our country. We worry about the faith of our children and the future of our Church in this country. We are anxious and we are worried.
Perhaps that’s why the communion Antiphon for today’s Mass has so much to say to us: “The Lord keeps in our minds the wonderful things he has done. He is compassion and love; he always provides for his faithful”
This antiphon is sung at the beginning of the Communion rite of the Mass. How perfect! In the midst of being anxious and worried, this song, taken from Psalm 110, reminds me of what is truly essential at this moment: God always provides for his faithful. As we move to join the Communion Procession, as we move to approach the Bread of Life and the Cup of Salvation, in the midst of any anxiety or worry, we are reminded that the Lord “always provides for his faithful”.
First Reading: Genesis 18. 1-10a
Abraham said, “Lord, do not pass by your servant.”
Second Reading: Colossians 1.24-28
I am making known the mystery hidden throughout the ages, now revealed to his saints.
Gospel: Luke 10.38-42
Martha welcomes Jesus into her home.
“Mary has chosen the better part.”

Welcome Home
Our Parish extends a warm welcome to all who have gathered this weekend for our Annual Cemetery Mass. We are very thankful to all who have taken the time to pray for their loved ones and to celebrate Eucharist. To all who have taken the time to beautify the resting places of your loved ones and assisted in making our Cemetery Mass one of prayer, may the Lord bless you and your family for your faithful service. May our sisters and brothers who have died rest in peace. Amen

Thank You
Our Parish gives sincere thanks to all who shared in the beautification of the resting places of your loved ones. To all who shared in the hard work of cleaning and cutting the grass, to the many volunteers along with our student workers under the leadership of Tom Cole who have done a great job, we offer our gratitude and appreciation. The property is just beautiful. We wish to say thank-you to the RCMP and their volunteers who have or will on Sunday control the traffic flow for our Cemetery Mass. Your support is always appreciated. Thank you to Rev. Father David Butler; Rev. Father Don Leonard; Rev. Father John Cole for your Spiritual and Liturgical service to our Parish at this time. Prayer For Our Parish
O God, you have made us the church of your Son. Make our Parish a family of one heart and mind in love with you. Grant that our common life and witness may be an example to all about us. Guide our Pastor and all who assist in the many ministries in our Parish. Listen to the prayers of St. Michael, our Patron, and keep us secure in your love. Teach us to reach out to other parishes less fortunate. Grant us a love for the church, for our Holy Father, for our Bishop, and all those who serve. Help us to be the bread of joy and peace within the human family. Bring us all together to life eternal. Amen

Church Parking Lot
We have designated two parking spaces for the Physically challenged near the main entrance of the church. It is kindly appreciated that these two spaces be respected and used only by those who cannot use the stairs leading to the upper parking lot. We ask that the Fire Lane be free from all traffic especially in the event that we require emergency services such as the fire trucks or the ambulance. Please do not park in the fire lane.
