SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
JUNE 10, 2007

O Sacrament Most Holy

Today the Church observes the solemnity of the Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ. On this day we honor and commemorate the great mystery of the Eucharist-Christ, whole and undivided, body and soul present to us in his Body and Blood.
Some parishes will mark this day with special rites and celebrations. For example, there may be exposition and benediction of the Most Holy Eucharist, when the Eucharist is visibly exposed, usually in a monstrance, for adoration. There are readings from scripture, songs of praise and psalms, preaching, and silent adoration. The celebration ends with benediction, when the priest or deacon blesses the faithful with the Eucharist in the monstrance.
Some parishes may mark this day with a traditional Eucharistic procession. After Mass, the Eucharist, which has been consecrated at that Mass, is placed in the monstrance and carried in procession outside the church. Some parishes process from their parish church, through the neighborhood, singing songs and chants.
There is no greater way to celebrate this solemnity, however, than for the Church to come together, as the visible expression of the Body of Christ, head and members, gathered around the altar of the Lord. There we hear the scriptures proclaimed, we pray and intercede for the world, the Church, the poor. There the Church offers to God, in faith, the gifts of bread and wine, and through the Eucharistic Prayer God gives back to us his very Son-Christ Jesus, present in the Eucharist, the Bread of heaven given for the life of the world.
First Reading: Genesis 14.18-20
Melchizedek of Salem brought out bread and wine.
Second Reading: 1Corinthians 11.23-26
As often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
Gospel: Luke 9.11b-17
All ate and were filled.

Cemetery Cleanup
Please remove all wooden and iron fences that are in poor condition as soon as possible. It is the policy that no fences be erected in the cemetery and that the grave site must not have shrubs, trees, flowers or gravel which prevent the easy access of the lawn movers from cutting the grass. Please do not throw garbage near the grave site of another family plot. Please remove the debris from the cemetery or put it in the location where the main garbage site is identified. A special thank-you to those who (anonymously) are helping to clean up and using their own lawn mowers to help beautify our cemetery.
