Letter from Diocese of Grand Falls
Dear Faithful People:
The year 2009 will mark the 100th Anniversary of the establishment
of the first Council of the Knights of Columbus in the province of
Newfoundland and Labrador.
During these past 100 years, the dedication and participation of the
Knights in the social and religious life of the province forms a proud
chapter of history.
As a Fraternal Organization of Catholic Men, the Knights touch the lives
of many people and give strong witness to their Catholic faith.
On behalf of myself, Archbishop O’Brien of St. John’s, and Bishop
Crosby of St. George’s & Labrador, I thank the Knights for their strong
promotion of family life, to the assistance they give to brother Knights
in distress, and the help they bring in time of disaster, both in
financial and in volunteer hours in the province of Newfoundland &
Labrador.
The Knights are also to be commended for the service they give to
the church especially in their strong support of the Bishops in the
cause of human life and the sanctity and dignity of marriage. I take
this opportunity to join with my brother Bishops in encouraging every
Catholic man to think seriously of becoming a member of the Knights of
Columbus - the largest Catholic fraternal organization in the world.
Sincerely,
+Most Rev. Martin W. Currie
Bishop of Grand Falls
State Chaplain

Did you know?.....
That Pope Benedict XV1 has declared a plenary indulgence for the World Day
of the Sick being celebrated this Sunday, Feb. 11th. A decree issued on
January 25, 2007 grants the indulgence to those who participate in the Mass
for the World Day of the Sick in Seoul, Korea and to those who participate
in a similar ceremony that day “at any other place decided by the
ecclesiastical authorities.” The indulgence is also granted to health-care
personnel whose duties make it impossible for them to attend ceremonies for
the World Day of the Sick, and to the sick who cannot attend the ceremonies,
if they pray for the welfare of the sick on that day.
