CHRIST THE KING - SOLEMNITY
NOVEMBER 26TH, 2006

On this great feast we rejoice in calling Christ our King. We owe him an allegiance we would not give to any other power on earth. Our lives are meant to bear witness to his kingdom. What kind of witnesses are we?
First Reading (Dan 7:13-14). The prophet Daniel forsees the coming of one who will have dominion over all peoples. Christians see this as a reference to Christ, the Universal King.
Second Reading (Rev 1:5-8). Christ will take full possession of his kingdom only at the end of time.
Gospel (Jn 18:33-37). Jesus declares before Pilate that he is indeed a King, but that his kingdom is not like the kingdoms of this world.
On the last Sunday of the Church’s liturgical year, we think of the end and of judgement. The apocalyptic vision from the Book of Daniel sets the tone (First Reading). It talks about the coming of ‘a son of man’, a title for the future redeemer. It is not clear that Jesus referred to himself as ‘Son of Man’ in this apocalyptic sense, but the early Christians certainly did. Basing itself on this same text from Daniel, Revelation looks to Jesus’ coming at the end of time, when he will take full possession of his kingdom (Second reading). The Gospel, where the Lectionary once again shifts to John, contains a section from the Passion narrative: Jesus is being interrogated by Pilate. The issue here is the nature of Jesus’ kingship.

Home Religion Program
The Home Religion Program has started in our Parish and we encourage all Parents/Guardians to take time to help their children and fulfill the promise they made in baptism, to bring their child up in the ways of the Roman Catholic Faith. I trust that all youth who are registered for these programs and all their families will renew their commitment to be faithful in attending our regular weekend Masses.

Happy 53rd Anniversary
Our Parish extends congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Raymond & Mabel Gendreau who are celebrating their 53rd Wedding Anniversary on November 25th, 2006. We pray that the Lord will continue to bless them with many more years of Christian marriage and good health.
