THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
JESUS’ POWER OVER SICKNESS AND DEATH
JULY 2ND, 2006

In the Gospel we see that Jesus healed sick people by touching them. He touched people in various ways: with his words, with his hands, with his love. The Eucharist brings us very close to Jesus and we too need his healing touch in our lives.
1st Reading: (Wis 1:13-15; 2:23-24). God did not make us for death but for life, here and hereafter.
2nd Reading: (2 Cor 8:7.9.13-15). St. Paul is appealing to the Corinthians to contribute to a collection for the poor in the Church at Jerusalem.
Gospel: (Mk 5:21-43). Both of the miracles related here are signs of God’s power, restoring life and health through Jesus.
In today’s Gospel we have two more miracles.
These miracles show that Jesus’ saving power can overcome sickness and even death. The reading from Wisdom serves as a backdrop to this message. God did not create human beings in order to destroy them, but that they should enjoy a blessed immortality.
Both the woman with the haemorrhage and the daughter of Jairus were beyond the help of any earthly power. The great faith of the woman and of Jairus is stressed. Both believed that Jesus possessed a supernatural power to heal. Both miracles are signs of God’s power, restoring life and health through Jesus. The raising of the little girl is a foreshadowing of Jesus’ gift of eternal life to all who believe in him.

Cemetery Clean Up: The Front
The days are getting closer for our annual celebration of the cemetery mass. However, our cemetery is a place we ought to care for at all times and therefore you are asked to clean up the resting place of your loved ones during the coming week.
Please do not throw garbage near the grave site of another family plot. Please remove the debris from the cemetery or put it in the location where the main garbage site is
identified.

Cemetery Guidelines
The Parish Council /Finance Committee has in place for many years specific guidelines relating to the care of the cemetery. It is the policy that no fences be erected in the cemetery and that the grave site must not have shrubs, trees, flowers or gravel which prevent the easy access of the lawn mower from cutting the grass. Also, if a fence is in poor condition it is to be removed and no other fence is to be put in place. Please ensure it is possible for the workers to clean the property at all times without any hindrance to their work.

This Pastor Has Guts!!

“Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good, “But that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual Equilibrium and reversed our values.
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
We have shot abortionist and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem.
We have abused power and called it politics.
We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition.
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of -expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen”

Did you know?.....
That if you attend weekend Mass at a church other than your own parish church and use your parish envelope for your weekly offering, that offering will be returned to your own parish.
