Reflections for The Third Sunday of Easter April 30th, 2006

1st Reading: Acts 3:13-15, 17-19...You killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. Peter addressed the people and told them they asked to have a murderer released and had Jesus the Holy and righteous One, put to death. But God raised him on the third day. Now they must turn to God and repent.
2nd Reading: 1 John 2:1-5...Jesus Christ is the atoning sacrifice for our sins and the sins of the world. Whoever obeys God’s commandments, lives in Christ and Christ lives in him.
Gospel: Luke 24:35-48...Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and rise from the dead on the third day.
The Gospel opens where the two disciples who met Jesus on the Road to Emmaus, are back in the room with the other eleven disciples. They are telling them of their encounter with the Lord and how they recognized him in the breaking of the bread. Then Jesus appears to them and the other eleven. To convince them that he was truly alive, he asks for some food. Then he explains the Scriptures to them and tells them that everything written about the Messiah in the Old Testament had to be fulfilled. Moreover, he tells them that they are witnesses to these things.

Prayer For Our Parish
O God, you have made us the Church of your Son. Make our parish a family of one heart and one mind in love toward you. Grant that our common life and witness may be an example to all about us. Guide our pastor and his assistants in their ministry. Listen to the prayers of St. Michael, our patron, and keep us secure in your love. Teach us to reach out to other parishes less fortunate. Give us a great love for all the Church, for our Holy Father, for our bishop, and all those who serve. Help us to be a haven of joy and peace within the human family. Bring us all together to life eternal. Amen.
