April 16

Reflection for Easter Vigil, April 15th, 2006
Gospel: Mark 16 - 1 - 8... On the first day of the week the women went to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus with spices. They were amazed to find the stone rolled back. On entering the tomb they saw an angel who told them that Jesus was raised. They were frightened and fled from the tomb in terror. Most of the readings speak to us of newness - new life, creation, new beginnings, new heart, new spirit. In Isaiah and Ezekiel, the prophets are talking to the people in exile. These readings are filled with hope. They are told that they will see their homeland again and that God will forgive them. Today we have people fleeing from their homeland. They are coming to live in a more peaceful country; we have our own people leaving home and going to other parts of the country in search of work; we have our young men and women in the armed forces being sent to Afghanistan to help the people there. Everyone is looking for something new and filled with the hope of a better life for themselves and their families. In all these circumstances and situations, we must remember that God is with us.

Did you know?.....
That the Compendium, an abbreviated version of the Catechism of the Catholic Church
is now available in English. Pope Benedict XV1 describes the Compendium as “a faithful
and sure synthesis of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It contains, in concise form, all the essential and fundamental elements of the Church’s faith, thus constituting, as my Predecessor had wished, a kind of vademecum which allows believers and non-believers alike to behold the entire panorama of the Catholic faith.”
Copies are now available at the Parish Office at a cost of $15.00.

Knights of Columbus/St Michael’s Parish Ticket Sweep
The ticket sweep for our parish continues to be doing very well. We still must sell another 30 tickets if we are to gain the extra bonus for the sale of 400 tickets. To those who are home for the Easter season or if you have not yet purchased a ticket at a cost of $40.00, please stop by the sacristy after mass and support this very important cause. We need your support and the final date to have the tickets sold is April 30th. Please support St. Michael’s Parish and the local council of the Knights of Columbus.

The next meeting of the Knights of Columbus will be held on April 20th at 7:45 p.m. at the hall. All members are asked to please attend.
