TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY

SEPTEMBER 4TH, 2005

Focus: Love your neighbor as yourself.

Love for God and love for one's neighbor is the fulfillment of God's law. When our love calls us to correct other or keep them from harm, we are not setting out to win an argument or to prove them wrong. Love does not shame, humiliate, or manipulate; love acts in the best interest of our relationships with one another and with God.

Prayer Of A Minister Of The Word
Lord, invest me with your power as I prepare to proclaim the marvel of your message.
I have prepared my reading, I have tried to take within me
the meaning of what I am about to proclaim.
Help me to proclaim, not just with my lips, but with my heart and soul.
Lord, make me a hollow reed so that your voice will be heard by all who hear me.
Free me of excessive concern over my performance;
Convert my feeling of nervousness and turn all my apprehension into an energy
for proclaiming your word with power and authority.
May your Spirit live in me and fill the holy word that I proclaim.

Be Bright - Think Right: School Bus Safety
Prevention is the key to school bus safety. Transport Canada and the RCMP have teamed up for the Be Bright-Think Right campaign to help children across Canada stay safe. The cooperation of both educators and parents is essential to this effort. Educators and parents can provide children with frequent reminders about school bus safety.
The 10 basic tips on school bus safety ( a parent's guide)
Getting to the school bus
1. Remind your child to get to the bus stop at least five minutes before the school bus arrives. Children should never run after the bus.
2. Your child should stay on the sidewalk; if there is no sidewalk; tell your child to walk on the left side of the street facing traffic.
3. Remind your child that they should cross the street only at a corner and look both ways for oncoming traffic before crossing. Choose the safest way to get to the bus stop.
4. When the school bus is approaching the stop, your child must take five steps back from the road.
Riding on the school bus
5. Once inside the bus, your child should take a seat as quickly as possible, store their belongings under the seat, and stay calm.
6. Remind your child to stay seated until the bus comes to a complete stop before getting up.
7. Your child should use the handrail when getting off the school bus.
After riding on the school bus
8. It is important to tell your children to stay away from the three danger zones-the sides, front and back of the bus, stay at least 10 feet away from the bus.
9. If the students have to cross the street, they should always do it on front of the bus, and only after making sure the driver is aware that you are there.
10. If the students drop something beside or under the bus, they should never attempt to retrieve it without the driver's permission.
