FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
MAY 9, 2004

FOCUS: Love one another as Christ has loved us.

Jesus reminds us that all will know that we are his disciples, if we have love for one another. As the Church celebrates this Fifth Sunday of Easter, many people celebrate Mother's Day and call to mind the special love of mothers for their children, but even that love pales compared to the love that Jesus has for us.

Happy Mother's Day
It is with sincere prayer and blessing that we extend to all Moms: Happy Mother's Day. You are truly the heart of the family and we salute you on this day for your many acts of love and compassion that you have given and continue to share with your family. To all Moms who have died, we pray that they will find true peace and love in the arms of our Loving God. As a sign of love for your deceased Mom, take time to visit her resting place and if necessary, ensure the property is given the proper care and respect Mom deserves.
As a blessing to all Moms on this day, we present to you a carnation as a symbol of love and a sign of the true value you hold within our hearts.
As part of our liturgy today I will read a well known book to the kids and all Moms reminding us all just how special Moms truly are. Please join the choir in the refrain of the song they will sing as part of the reading of the book:

I Will Love You Forever, I Will Like You For always
As Long As I'm Living, My Baby You'll Be

Canada Health Day : Wednesday, May 12th
Canada Health Day is celebrated by workers in thousands of health care facilities and community services across the country. Given the central part of the healing stories in the gospel, all Christians should celebrate and pray for the gift of health— physical, emotional, social and spiritual. This day reminds us that health and healing are essential aspects of our baptismal vocation. We are called to take responsibility for our health, to prevent illness and seek a healthy lifestyle. Health means concern for the health of our communities, respect for God's creatures and the nurturing of the whole earth. May each one of us become channels of healing for those who suffer and are sick.

On Tuesday, May 11th at 7:30 p.m. there is an A. A. meeting at the parish hall for all who wish to form a group to offer support and counsel. We all know that alcohol is a powerful force and it takes great courage to seek help. All are welcome.
