THIRTEENTH SUNDAY

Focus: A single-hearted commitment to God must be at the centre of each of our lives.

Jesus calls us to give up everything to follow him and to make him the centre of our lives and our love. This does not mean that we must abandon those who depend on us. Rather, it is through these others that our commitment to the Lord is lived out. Through the everyday events in the life of a disciple, one's love for the Lord should be evident.

First Friday: Visitation of Sick/Shut In's
On Friday of this week , we will visit the sick and the shut in's of the parish. Please notify the office if you are not home on this day.

Canada Day: July 1st
July 1 is celebrated as Canada's birthday. Canadians should seek to be witnesses to Christ in Canada and the world, and to continue working to influence those in government to act from Christian principles and attitudes. Christians, realizing they do not have a lasting home here, should pray and work for justice and peace in Canada and throughout the world, so that all God's people may share in the goods of this earth. God's kingdom will come only when all people are ready to let Christ's teaching guide and rule their lives and actions. Families should be encouraged to mark this day be prayer for our country and its leaders, and by taking a few moments to give serious consideration to their responsibilities as citizens; they should consider what they are doing for peace in Canada and in the world.

Cemetery Mass Schedule
St. Michael's Cemetery, The Front: 2:30 p.m. : July 18th
Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lance Cove: 2:30 p.m. : August 1st
Please continue to improve the resting places of your loved onesCemetery Clean Up
The date for the cemetery mass is scheduled for Sunday, July 18th at the front. All families are asked to clean up the cemetery and remove the debris to the sites that are traditionally identified for garbage in our cemetery. We have only one student working on a student grant this summer and therefore it is expected that you improve the resting places of your loved ones. It is a very important task for all our parishioners to ensure that our cemetery is a place of respect and our property is cleaned to the best. I wish to remind the parishioners that if you remove the old fence from the grave site that you not replace it. We have no animals in the area any more and therefore fences only prevent us from cutting the grass and fences also create extra work for you to maintain.

Dinner Theatre
The final tickets are on sale for the Theatre and if you are lucky, you may get one. We have sold 150 tickets and now we encourage those who reserved the tickets to please have them picked up by Sunday, July 4th . It is important that all reserved tickets be purchased or else if you cancel, it will give us time to sell them to someone else.

Memorial Day Service: July 1st
On Thursday, July 1st , the Royal Canadian Legion , Branch 18, will celebrate a memorial service in memory of all who served in war and in Thanksgiving for all our peacekeepers. This service will begin at 3:00 p.m. All Legion members are asked to be at the Legion at 2:00 p.m. . All are welcome to gather at the monument memorial at the appropriate time.

Welcome Home
Our parish extends a warm welcome home to all visitors, especially former Bell Islanders who are visiting for their vacation. We welcome you back home and hope you have a wonderful visit as you rekindle friendships and share the stories of the past.

Summer Vacation: Ministries
During the summer months, many of you will be away on weekends and enjoying a well deserved holiday. If you are unavailable to fulfill weekend ministries at the church, please find a substitute. Please do not leave this to the last minute because it is difficult to get someone to replace you a few minutes before mass. Thank you for your support.
