TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY
August 29th , 2004

FOCUS: The virtue of humility is often misunderstood in today's society.

False humility does not acknowledge the talents which we have, yet pride may deny that they come from God. True humility calls each of us to claim our gifts and to confirm our dependence on God for them. Name, claim, and give credit to God. When we use our gifts to build up the community, we take part in God's plan in the world.

Labour Day
On Monday, September 6th , we celebrate Labour Day. It is a fitting time to give thanks to God for the many blessings of human labour and to renew our commitment to respect the dignity of all work. May we always ensure that the workplace is a sacred place as we proclaim the blessings of God and share the message of Christ to all people. On this Labour day, let us pray for the hopeful opportunities for work on the Island especially as it relates to the present discussion concerning new mining opportunities.

Visitation of Sick / Shut In's
On Friday, September 4th, I will visit the sick & shut-in's of our Parish. If you are not going to be home on that date, please call the office and let us know. Let us pray for the sick and shut-in's of our parish.

Home Religion Program
The religious education for our children is the sole responsibility of the parents / guardians. The role of the parish is to provide the religious materials and coordinate the families to participate in the program.
Children: Age 5 & 6 are invited to participate in the year 1 program.
Children: Age 7 or older can participate in the year 2 program which includes first Eucharist.
Children: Age 8 can participate in the year 3 program which includes First Penance.
Children: Age 9 or older can participate in the Confirmation Program.
Please note that these age groups are flexible. It is up to the parents/guardians to ask to have their child register for a particular program. This year the religion program will be completed at home and once per month we will meet with the parents/guardians to evaluate their progress.
For further information, call Karen Seward 488 - 2560 or the parish office 488-2525. Registration Forms are available at the parish office or at the church. Please complete the form and submit a fee of $10.00 so that the parish can purchase the materials required for each child.

Church Parking Lot
During the past week, we designated two parking spaces for the Physically challenged near the main entrance of the church. It is kindly appreciated that these two spaces be respected and used only by those who cannot use the stairs leading to the upper parking lot. We ask that the Fire Lane be free from all traffic especially in the event that we require emergency services such as the fire trucks or the ambulance. Please do not park in the fire lane.
