TWENTY SIXTH SUNDAY
SEPTEMBER 28, 2003

Focus: God invites all people to the kingdom of heaven.

We learn in today's readings that the most important goal in our lives is to attain heaven, which is part of God's plan for everyone. There is no direct route, but many roads lead to eternal life. No race, nation, group or individual has exclusive rights to define the way to salvation. The Spirit of God moves where it will, unencumbered by human restrictions.

The Knights of Columbus invite all members to attend their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, October 16th at 8:00 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to determine by vote whether or not the Knights of Columbus will move from their present "home" to our parish hall. During the past year the parish pastoral council in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus have discussed the possibility of the Knights moving to our parish hall. The Knights will rent our hall on a monthly basis and hopefully this will realize savings for all concerned. The meeting is open to all members of the Knights of Columbus. It's your opportunity to vote and determine your future home.

This is a very important celebration and it gives our parish family the opportunity to pray for the members of the Knights of Columbus and encourage them in their good works. Following the installation ceremony, you are invited to the parish hall for a social. Please support the spirit and generous service of the Knights of Columbus.

CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
Each week we hope to present a teaching of our faith from the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Our aim is to help us live and renew the faith we profess.

The Second Commandment: You Shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

-The second commandment prescribes respect for the Lord's name. Like the first commandment, it belongs to the virtue of religion and more especially it governs our use of speech in sacred matters.
-The second commandment commands respect for the Lord's name. The name of the Lord is holy.
-The second commandment forbids every improper use of God's name. Blasphemy is the use of the name of God. ,of Jesus Christ, of the Virgin Mary and of the saints in an offensive way.
-False oaths call on God to be witness to a lie. Perjury is a grave offence against the Lord who is always faithful to his promises.
