Priests Retreat
During the coming week, the priests of the archdiocese will be on retreat. I will not be doing the retreat this time but at a later time in the Fall. However, I will be covering the city parishes for emergency. Please pray for all our priests.

Congratulations
During the month of June, Msgr. James Doody will celebrate his 50th anniversary to priesthood; Father Joe Barton, 25th; Msgr. Dermot O'Keefe, 60th . These are fine milestones in life and we congratulate all these fine men for their faithful service to the church. On Thursday of this week, I will attend a banquet in their honour at the priests retreat.

Financial Update
Since our last financial update our parish has continued to meet its operating expenses and despite the high winter costs we have managed to remain financially strong. As you can appreciate, we have many monthly expenses which include the general costs of heat , light, oil, telephone, salaries, assessment to the diocese, cleaning supplies, office supplies, snow clearing, Revenue Canada, cable, photo copier lease, car maintenance, blue cross, and much more. The costs to operate any parish is high .
As of May 16th, we have managed to save $ 7,334.10 in our operating account. This money will be used for continual operations and hopefully we can improve. It is important that we continue to fund raise so that we can meet the many expenses during the winter months next year. As you may recall, our last financial report indicated we had a major debt to pay the diocese and we have completed that task.
The good news is that we have secured a government grant to hire Mr. Tom Cole for summer employment and we also have secured $6000.00 as profit from out ticket sweep with the Knights of Columbus. Also, we must add $2100.00 to our income which the school will reimburse soon as payment for the dinners at the graduation. In reality, we have done very well and we anticipate it will continue.
On behalf of the finance committee, I thank you for your excellent support. Together, we will improve our parish and ensure that we have success in the financial and pastoral care of our parish .
Home Study Religion Program
During the past year, parents participated with their children in the Home Study Religion Program for year 1. It was a very successful year and we are very pleased . To conclude the program, we will have a social at the hall for the kids and their families on Saturday, May 31st at 3:15 p.m.. Following the social, they will be invited to attend our 5:00 p.m. mass and at that time they will be presented with their certificate of congratulations for their completion of the year 1 Home Study program.

Cemetery Improvements
Please continue to care for the resting places of your loved ones. Your kind offering to assist in the purchase of a new lawn mower and whipper snipper is much appreciated. Let us begin early to clean up our cemeteries and ensure that it is not left to the last minute.

Parish Council Elections
Several weeks ago you were invited to nominate individuals to serve on our parish pastoral council. Unfortunately, only a few names were nominated and therefore the present council will continue with a few additional members. The new parish council members are: John Kent, Rosanne Grant, Fred Carroll, Ursula Lahey, Roslyn Hurley, Mary Power, Margaret Murrin , Joan Whalen, Sister of Mercy, Ashley Curnew, Kevin George ( youth)

Sincere thanks to those who served our council in the past, Margaret Kent, Frank Pendergast Art Whelan. I trust that you will continue to support the parish in other activities.

Altar Server Award
During our liturgy next weekend, the Knights of Columbus will present to our altar servers a certificate in recognition of their faithful service to our church as an altar server. All altar servers are asked to attend the regular Saturday or Sunday mass they usually attend. We thank all our servers and we encourage other youth to share in this special ministry.

Candidates for Confirmation
This weekend our parish is pleased to welcome and celebrate the sacrament of confirmation with our youth. This is a very important time in the lives our youth and we encourage them to continue to practice their faith and be actively involved in the life of our parish.

Communion Rite
During the past week we have improved our communion rite as you come forward to receive communion. I ask that two ushers come forward at each mass during the communion rite and allow individuals to come forward in a orderly manner to receive communion. I thank you all for your support and cooperation in helping improve this part of our liturgy.
