SAINTS PETER AND PAUL, APOSTLES - SOLEMNITY
JUNE 29, 2003

Focus: We are called to bear witness to the truth

Our Judeo-Christian tradition holds that God is the source of all truth, and that we are called to live in the truth. All Christians have a duty to witness to the truth of God and martyrdom is the supreme sacrifice for that truth. Today's solemnity honours the sacrifice Peter and Paul freely chose so that others might have life through Christ.

Canada Day: July 1st
July 1 is celebrated as Canada's birthday. Canadians should seek to be witnesses to Christ in Canada and the world, and to continue working to influence those in government to act from Christian principles and attitudes. Christians, realizing they do not have a lasting home here, should pray and work for justice and peace in Canada and throughout the world, so that all God's people may share in the goods of this earth. God's kingdom will come only when all people are ready to let Christ's teaching guide and rule their lives and actions. Families should be encouraged to mark this day be prayer for our country and its leaders, and by taking a few moments to give serious consideration to their responsibilities as citizens; they should consider what they are doing for peace in Canada and in the world.

WELCOME HOME
Our parish extends a warm welcome to all visitors especially former Bell Islanders who are visiting the town for a holiday. We welcome you back home and we hope you have a wonderful visit as you rekindle friendships and share the stories of the past.

Dinner Theatre: Please Support
In order for our parish to meet the many expenses for our Dinner Theatre on Friday, July 18th, you are invited to support our fund raising efforts. It is necessary for us to purchase potatoes, cabbage , turnip, carrot, wine, dinner rolls, pickles, salt beef and much more. The cost is very high and since this is a fund raiser for the parish, we ask for your support.
Your are invited to donate $5.00 per person to help purchase our many needs. Please sign the form at the back of the church and submit your offering next weekend on Saturday or Sunday. It is important for us to have your donation next weekend. Please place your offering in an envelope marked " Dinner Theatre" and put it in the collection next weekend. Thank you for your support.

No Sports/Recreation
Due to damage caused to the siding on the church last summer, you are asked not to play sports /recreation of any kind around the church property. The cost to repair broken siding on the church is very expensive and therefore, please play sports/recreation at the appropriate places. Also, no skate boarding on the church steps. Please pass on this message to others who are not attending church.

Farewell/Thanks
On Tuesday , July 1st following the 7:00 p.m. mass, you are invited to a social at the parish hall to say farewell and thank you to Sister Dorothy and Sister Barbara. We are very appreciative to the Sisters for their faithful service to our parish and a special thank you for their kindness in visiting the sick and the shut in's of our parish. We encourage parishioners to gather with us and offer your personal word of thanks.

Stations of Cross: Lance Cove
Sincere thanks is extended to Bridget Skehans who done a wonderful job is restoring the stations of the cross for Lance Cove Grotto Site. This work took a considerable length of time to complete and we are very grateful for her generosity. Also, I wish to thank Alice Kavanagh for doing the letter writing on the stations and to Mr. Tom Stoyles for overseeing the project. The casings for the stations of the cross were completed by Mr. Paul Butler owner of the company Kento. To all who made this project a success, we salute you for your generosity to the parish.
