ASCENSION OF THE LORD
June 1, 2003

Focus: The Lord's ascension into heaven calls us to pray and to evangelize.
The promise of Jesus not to leave us orphans culminates in the mystery of the Ascension. In handing over his mission to the Apostles and the Church, Jesus becomes present to all people through Word and Sacrament. Ascending into heaven, Jesus prepares a place for us. Thus, the Ascension is a call to evangelize the world and a reminder of our eternal destiny.

Farewell and Thank You
Our parish says Farewell and Thank You to Sister Dorothy Willcott and Sister Barbara Kenny for their faithful service and ministry to our parish. Both Sisters will be leaving our parish at the end of June and taking on new ministry in other parts of the archdiocese. We salute both Sisters for their generosity and loving care to our community. During the coming weeks we will offer public acknowledgement to the Sisters for their faithful service.
We welcome Sister Elsie Lahey and Sister Eileen Osborne who will begin ministry in our parish in late summer.

First Friday : Visitation to Sick/Shut In's
On Friday of this week, I will visit the sick and the shut in's of the parish. I remind the sick and the shut in's that they are not required to follow the church law of fasting one hour before communion. We have a large number of parishioners to visit and it takes a lengthy time to complete. If you are not home on Friday, please call the office and this will save us time in visiting the sick and shut in's.

The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the auction followed by the Mystery Murder Act which the guests must solve who is the guilty of the crime. World Communications Day: Sunday, June 1st

Today Catholics are invited to reflect upon the media of social communication (films, radio, television, newspapers, audiovisuals) and how these influence our lives.
The media can promote values that lead to a more fully human society. The Church's ministry is twofold. The media can be used to help promote the gospel. At the same time, as receivers of the materials presented by the media, the faithful have a duty to support and promote worthwhile presentations on media and reject those which promote values contrary to spiritual growth.
