ST. MICHAEL’S PARISH

P.O. BOX 610 - BELL ISLAND, NF - A0A 4H0
PHONE: 488-2525 – FAX: 488-3399

Administrator: Fr. Wayne Dohey – Secretary: Cindy Foley

FOURTEENTH SUNDAY
JULY 6, 2003

FOCUS: Jesus reminds us to listen to the signs of our times.

God sends people into our lives to remind us of his great love for us. We have had people like Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa, other religious, and many lay people who faithfully preached the word of God and lived it in their lives. If we listen to these prophetic voices, they will challenge us to look at ourselves and the values we hold.

Let's Take A Rest
During the coming week, my priest friend, Father Jacek will be visiting and therefore I will take time to give him the tour of the area and to visit my family and friends. This is a time for the regulars who attend church on weekdays to take a rest and enjoy a holiday. I will be available for funerals and other emergencies if the need should arise. Also, the secretary planned to take a weeks holiday at the same time. She had her holidays planned before I settled my holiday. If there is an emergency you may call the secretary at home or Rosanne Grant and they will get in contact with me. I will be on the Cape Shore enjoying a few days with family.

Thank You
Sincere thanks to the many volunteers who helped clean the cemetery at Lance Cove last Saturday. It was a major amount of work but at the same time, it was fun to be with such wonderful people. Thanks to all who shared in the task. It was a job well done.

Cemetery Clean Up: The Front
The days are getting closer for our annual celebration of the cemetery mass. However, our cemetery is a place we ought to care for at all times and therefore you are asked to clean up the resting place of your loved ones during the coming week.
Please do not throw garbage near the grave site of another family plot. Please remove the debris from the cemetery or put it in the location where the main garbage site is identified.

Cemetery Guidelines
The Parish Council /Finance Committee has in place for many years specific guidelines relating to the care of the cemetery. It is the policy that no fences be erected in the cemetery and that the grave site must not have shrubs, trees, flowers, gravel which prevent the easy access of the lawn mower from cutting the grass. Please ensure it is possible for the workers to clean the property at all times without any hindrance to their work.

Stipends for Parish
It is the policy of the parish and the archdiocese that the following stipends are requested for the following: Mass Intentions $5.00 plus $1.00 for the card if required; $5.00 fee for baptism; $5.00 for certificates of baptism or confirmation; a recommended offering of $50.00 for a wedding ceremony. These stipends are helpful to the parish to pay for the supplies of candles, paper and general maintenance of church and they are not the fees for the priest. However, if there is major difficulty in making such an offering for either of the above, I am sure there will be no difficulty in fulfilling your request.

Welcome Home
Our parish extends a warm welcome to all visitors especially former Bell Islanders who are visiting the town for a holiday. We welcome you back home and we hope you have a wonderful visit as you rekindle friendships and share the stories of the past.
