SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER
APRIL 27, 2003

Month of May: Pray the Rosary
During the month of May, it is traditional that we pray the Rosary as a family. I fully understand that this practice is not common today as it was in the past but perhaps families can rekindle the prayer of the rosary. It is encouraged that you take time to pray the rosary at least once a week and explain the prayer to your children. Also, twenty minutes before weekday mass, we will pray the rosary.

Easter Liturgies
I sincerely thank all who helped with the many liturgies of the Easter Tridiuum. I am very appreciative to all who decorated the church and ensured it was cleaned and given the greatest care. To all who attended, I pray that the blessings of the Easter season be with you at all times.
To be honest, I was very disappointed with the church attendance on Good Friday. It is unfortunate that for reasons of your own choice that some neglected to reverence the Cross on the most sacred day of the year. I am very concerned that we have set up other activities to be more important than church and the harsh reality is that fewer young people will attend church when there are other events happening that compete with church services. If we continue to give our youth/adults a choice between going to mass and other social events, they will follow the way of the world: reject the church and find other events more important. As a Christian community, we must set our priorities

Focus: All that we have and are is a gift from God and is meant to be shared.

The world might tell us that we are the owners of our lives and possessions. Just the opposite is true; all that we have–our lives, faith, and possessions–are gifts from God. As Christians, it is our duty to be good stewards and share generously with others what we have been given. This was the ideal the early Church strived for, and it is the ideal we are to strive for today.

National Volunteer Week: April 27th - May 3rd
This year, from April 27 to May 3, National Volunteer Week is celebrating the spirit and energy of Canada's Volunteers with the theme: The Value of One. The Power of Many. The theme describes how one person's actions , informed by the heart and by a desire for change in the world, can make a significant difference.
It is with sincere gratitude that I salute all the volunteers of our parish and community who work together and share their gifts and talents to help make the many activities and events of our town a continued success. To all who participate and volunteer in making St. Michael's Parish fully alive, I offer you every blessing and praise.

Battle of the Atlantic
On Sunday, May 4th at 3:00 p.m. at the Seaman's Memorial, Lance Cove, The Royal Canadian Legion , Branch 18 will gather to remember the Battle of the Atlantic. All parishioners and friends are invited to take time to pray and remember . May our time of prayer help renew our constant hope for peace throughout our world.

Blue Ecumenical Service
On Thursday, May 8th at 7:00 p.m., our parish family in cooperation with the Knights of Columbus will honour the faithful service of the local Fire Department and the Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. This celebration is in recognition of the outstanding service of these individual groups and we are proud to acknowledge their service. Following the service at the church, we will gather at the parish hall for a social and entertainment. All parishioners and friends are invited.

Confirmation Candidates
Confirmation candidates who have prepared to be confirmed this year are encouraged to attend mass. Although classes are finished, I hope this does not mean the end of going to mass. If you plan to stop going to church, please reconsider your request to be confirmed. It makes no sense to be confirmed and not go to mass. Let's be honest with the Lord and act with honour when we promise to follow His path.
