ST. MICHAEL’S PARISH

P.O. BOX 610 - BELL ISLAND, NF - A0A 4H0
PHONE: 488-2525 – FAX: 488-3399

Administrator: Fr. Wayne Dohey – Secretary: Cindy Foley

TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY
SEPTEMBER 1, 2002

Focus: When we recognize that God is in charge we are in good shape.

Once we accept God as the all-knowing, all-loving, director of our lives, we can relax and know we are in the best of hands. It is when we resist God's will for us that we often become frustrated, frightened, and confused. Jesus faithfully followed the will of his Father, teaching us to allow God to take control of our lives.

Labour Day
On Monday, September 2nd, we celebrate Labour Day. It is a fitting time of year to give thanks to God for the many blessings of human labour and to renew our commitment to respect the dignity of all work. May we always ensure that the workplace is a sacred place as we bring the blessing of God and share the message of Christ to all people.

Registration for Sacraments
We strongly encourage Parents/Guardians to take an active role in the passing on of the faith to their son/daughter. In order for us to teach our children the love of God we must ensure they receive proper formation. If you wish to register your son/daughter for the sacraments or to further their religious formation , please register at the parish office or pick up the registration form at the church . Only those who are registered will participate in the program.

Parish Insurance Costs
The insurance costs for our parish has increased by 40% from last year. This year the parish insurance costs: $7,315.00 for church/hall and it costs $ 719.00 for the Presbytery. The total cost is $ 8,034.00. This is a major expense for the parish. It is a great concern and we must attempt to meet this debt payment throughout the coming months. Please support our cause. I invite all parishioners and former parishioners to consider donating a little extra to the cause.

Lung Association
The Lung Association will host its first Breath of Hope Memorial Relay on Saturday, September 7th at the Field House, Memorial University. Our special guest for the evening will be Canada's own Donovan Bailey, 5 time Olympic champion runner. For further information, call Brenda 726 - 4664.

In Lieu of Flowers
It is in time of loss that we bring flowers as a sign of our compassion to those who are grieving. This is a wonderful expression of sorrow and yet we know that the flowers only last for a few days. If you wish to offer a monetary gift in lieu of flowers, you can consider donating to your parish or another charity. It is your choice to bring flowers or to donate to the building fund of the parish or another charity . However, our parish needs financial help and your donation to our chaity can be another expression to the family of your support for the maintenance of the church which is our house of prayer. Special cards are available at the funeral home or church if you wish to donate to our charity.
