OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST THE KING - SOLEMNITY

NOVEMBER 24TH 2002

cccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc

FOCUS: Jesus Christ our King makes the way of salvation clear to us.

Who would ever plan to build a house without the proper tool? Who would set out on a journey without directions or a map? The journey to heaven demands no less. We have in our faith the tools of love, honor, and truth. We have in the Scriptures the best road map ever printed. Now all we have to do is stay on the right road which will take us home.

Fall Fair Success
A sincere thanks to all who supported and helped in any way to make the Fall Fair a great success. I express appreciation to all the volunteers who coordinated all the events and to you the patrons for supporting the cause. The activity night at the hall which included nail driving contest, tug of war, hat contest, pie contest, log sawing contest and dart competition was a time of fun for all. I congratulate Betty Pearl who defeated Joe Somerton in the nail driving contest. I trust such a defeat is not too painful ( ha) . We hope to have more of these activities and help promote the true spirit of our parish.

The total income for the Fair
Suppers: $3060.00
Sale of Works/Bake sale/Card Game: $1562.00
Activity Night:$686.60
Donations for Fair: $380.00
Bingo Ticket Sales: $ 212.00
Bingo: $ 396.10
Bar Proceeds for Activity Night: $564.75

The total gross income for the Fair without taking out the expenses is: $6861.45. As you are aware we must pay for the expences for the Fair which will include : costs for the meats and some vegetables for the suppers; bingo supplies; liguor purchase; bar tender; music for the dance; and other miscellaneous costs. We estimate the expenses will be approximately $2000.00.
We salute all who helped with our success and I wish to thank the many businesses who donated to our many events. Please continue your spirit of generosity.

Season of Advent
During the advent season we will continue the spirit of the gospel as we " prepare the way for the Lord". During the weekend liturgies, at the end of each mass I will read to the kids for 2 minutes a book which reminds us of the many ways we can prepare for the Lord . Please take your time at the end of mass and listen to the message of the story book. It is very special and it is not only of value to children but also to adults.
Also, we will have a Jesse tree which we will have tags with food items written on each one. You may take a tag and bring your food item to the church and this donation will be forwarded to our local food bank.

Arthritis Information Session
Join the Bell Island Peer Advocates for Seniors and Judy Bannister , Arthritis Society for a fun and information afternoon on Tuesday, November 26th at 2:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion. New Years Eve Party
Are you interested in joining us at the hall for the New Years Party? We are considering in having a dance. It is our hope that we can make it a cheap evening with a cost of $5.00 per person. You may bring your own food and we will provide the kitchen facilities and the decorations of the bells and whistles required for the evening.
With regards to the music, Riv. Ford has volunteered to provide the entertainment along with his friends. We do not intend this to be a formal evening but just a place to gather and enjoy the company of friends. If you are interested in attending and wish to purchase a ticket, please call the parish office . Tickets will be available by contacting The Parish Office, John Kent, Clara Hammond, or George Jackman. The deadline for the purchase of tickets must be Friday, December 20th. We need to know who is attending in order for us to determine whether it will be a viable venture for the parish.
