Comments: Yes it's me again . . . Are you related to any one with the last name ROSE or CLARKE? I am still searching for Julia May Clarke and this will be my last message on this matter. Julia's brother (Ray) has requested a search for her through the Canadian pension fund search unit. This happened about 2 months ago and we have not heard anything from Julia. The search unit did give us the impression that they did in fact find her and sent a notice to her on behalf of her brother. Julia will be celebrating her 70th birthday this year on July 24. She fell out of contact with her family after 1953. Her last known residence was Bell Island where she lived with her uncle Willis Rose for a short time. There are indications that she worked at the Grace General hospital in St Johns during the 50s. We can only assume that she did marry, which would of course change her last name, and settled in either Ontario or in Newfoundland. I AM HER SON. I was born in St Johns on February 5 1952. My birth name was Vincent Garry Clarke and was placed for adoption with the Salvation Army - Glennbrook Lodge in St Johns. I don't know what happened or why Julia would not want to contact her family but I understand that her father William Clarke (died January 3 1972) was a very cruel individual that threw Julia out of his house when she was pregnant with me. I am at wits end. I would kill for at least a picture of Julia. If she doesn't want to contact the family then please contact me. From the history I have gotten from many sources I can completely understand why she gave me up. I do not hold that against her and would really like to meet her. If you do know her and she doesn't want to make contact then please send her my thanks, my love, and my hope that she will change her mind. Comments: I am related to the Rees clan of lance cove, my father was double cousins to charley rees whom i visited in '76 as i had hitchiked out to bell island to see my family roots. Wow, there must be some changes to the island since the mid 70's... i must come back and visit again. Would love to hear from any Rees's from Bell Island. Comments: Surfed in from Belfast and glad to see a site which brought back very pleasant memories. I was a regular visitor to Bell Island during the years 1962, 1963 and 1965. During that time I was an engineer aboard the Chandris ore carrier M.V. Charlton Mira on charter to Dosco carrying ore from Bell Island to Sydney, Nova Scotia. Do you remember that ship? Black hull, Buff superstructure, X on the funnel. The Dosco ships at that time on the same run being the Wabana, Louisburg, and Arthur Cross. I recall jigging for cod in Conception Bay when the ship was at anchor. Do the Capling still run? I have been a landlubber since 1996 and am Senior Engineer at the Royal Group of Hospitals. Belfast.

Comments: Very impressed with not only your efforts, but with the island folk who were so great to me in the summers of 82 and 86. In particular, I was extremly pleased to see the efforts of the Mine Museum, after I had written Wabana a letter suggesting just that. It was likely many others who were responsible for it's fruition, but I'm gland we were at least thinking alike. Now if I can just get the folk thinking about The Newfoundland Poney project combined with the Tourism concept of "Pit Poney" rides demonstrating above-ground pulling of kids in simulated ore cars on tracks... A supporting breeding program and healthcare would be developed over the rest of the year. Well just a thought. I've had a longing to retire to Bell Island for the past 15 years, and it might just be possible this summer; if I don't get tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail. But then some very stupid people sold all your rails didn't they? So much for Summer Tourist Steam Train Excursions, huh? See ya! Regards, Carl

My grandfather, Elias Gosine, was a carpenter on the island. My grandmother, Anne (Andrea) Gosine owned a grocery store, was a midwife and very well known on the island. I still have family there. I was born August, 1960 to a NF woman who was working at Placentia/Argentia as a laundry worker, nurses aide, and waitress. She would be 62 years old today. I also have a brother Lawrence born Feb. 1963, and a sister Doris Susanne born April 1965. They were both born at Placentia Hospital. We were all placed for adoption and have reunited. We are still searching for a brother born Sept. 1955 and raised by his grandmother and later given up for adoption to a family relative. Our mother was from a large family of eight siblings and her father died at a young age. It is quite possible that the older brother may not even know he has younger siblings. Our mother was born Church of England and may be from anywhere in NF. I would appreciate any help in the search for my mother and brother.

She was raised at the United Church orphanage in St Johns from 1933 to 1949 with her sister Anne. She has three other siblings Ray, Ed, and Jean.
