Comments: I was very interested in your Web page. It is well put together and very informative. I was born on Belle Isle and lived there from the time of my birth (jan 8 1946) until 1949. At that time my father was the resident medical doctor of the mine and we lived somewhere on the ridge. We with my sister Marilynn and my mother relocated to Ottawa. His name was Dr Arthur Samuel Crummey. I visited the island after my father had passed away at the age of 78. I visited with my son Joshua in 1996 some eleven years after his passing. We enjoyed the island very much and had some conversations with some people whom I had never met, they were very fine people. My father when I was growing up in Ottawa spoke fondly of the people of Belle Isle, people who he administered to as a physician. I hope to come back one more time, possible in a year or two,for I found it so very pleasant to visit the place that gave me such a start in life. Bye for now Arthur R Crummey

Sept 23rd my wife and daughter took me to see Buddy Wasisname in Winnipeg. The evening was pure entertaiment and was enough to make anyone homesick. Hopefully next year we will go back to the rock. Ed's on his way to BC with John Davidson who's walking across Canada raising money for genetic disease research - his son, Jesse,has a fatal form of MD. Ed's a volunteer driver with "Jesse's Journey - A Father's Tribute". He's been on the road since July and will stay with John right through to the end of the Journey in Victoria, B.C. in mid-January. I've never been to BC, but am going out for 6 weeks from mid December to end of January. Am trying to find a BC travel guide & map. Have searched the net but haven't been able to find phone/address to get same. Comments: Hi! My cousin came home on holiday from Barrie, Ont (originally from Bell Island, Danita Stoyles) and we visited the Belle the other day and had an excellent day for a grand tour. My father and his father were from there (Freshwater Area), Lloyd :-) s and Francis (Frank) :-) s. It was excellent to see the Island and hear my father talk about the area in detail. We also toured the #2 mine and found it very interesting. (Although, I got a bit claustrophobic!) But Dad loved it. Comments: HeLLo EveryBuddy from Newfie. We Just got back from Newfie after 9 days there and had a real good time.Stayed in St.John,s at me Brother Dominics,also went over to Bell Island. We visit Paddy Curnew & family, see Gary Fury first time in years and lots other friends.Took a walk down around #1 & #2 cove where me Paddy Curnew and Teddy Burke,Billy Burke spent all our time giging Tom Cods and catching caplin & climbing the clifts. Paddy and wife invited us for a favorite meal of fish & chips. Next day had another favorite meal at me brothers,,Gigs Dinner. Even had some cod heads,cod tongues, fish & bruse, Newfie Rum and a newfie party.The Funniest part of our trip was when going back to the Arg.boat with only a half hour to catch the boat. I jammed the breaks about 5 feet from a Moose that was twice the size of our car.That Moose stopped and stared down at me right in the face and wouldn,t move or even let our car move. After a minute he started to run and staggered down the road as if he drank a 40 ouncer Rum just ahead of our car for about a mile and wouldn,t let me pass. Just kept running and looking back at our car as if to say,, pass me if you can. Finally with only minutes to the boat I laid on the horn the Moose jumped and ran in the woods. I was able to catch the Boat on time.It was a experience we won,t forget. Well I hope soon me and my family will be going back to live in Newfie to a Island where everybuddy is your friend. Comments: Hi - I'm a volunteer with "Jesse's Journey-A Father's Tribute" and I'm trying to reach former Bell Islanders living in Ontario. John Davidson is now making his way across that province. You may remember he walked across Ontario, pushing his son Jesse in his wheelchair, and in the process they raised $1.3 million for genetic research. Now he's walking across Canada to raise more funds for research into genetic diseases. Right now John and his team are in Bowmanville/Oshawa, then Whitby/Pickering (28), Markham (29), Toronto (30), Bramlea/Brampton (31) Georgetown/Acton (Aug 1), Guelph (2), Kitchener (3). We'd love to see him visit Cambridge (from either Guelph or Kitchener) if we could get something organized there. This is a great cause! Comments: I lived in Topsail from 1957 until the base closed in St.John's. I met and had nnumerous friends all up and down the coast and what an enjoyable experience. One of my son's was born in Newfoundland and retains his Canadian citizenship. My wife of 49 years was born and raised in New Brunswick and still carries her green card. I also lived in Labrador for over a year and have never regretted a day of it. I have jigged cod, walled a well, drank screech, eaten britches and oared a dory allover Conception Bay. It is very delightful to visit your homepage and after all these years I finally found out that Bell Island was inhabited. Inthe place I rented in Topsail I could see the island out my living room window but never knew it was inhabited. Thanks again for a great website. Best of everything in the future.
