The last regular meeting was held in the Council Chamber on Wednesday, Mar. 12th with the following in attendance: Mayor Gosine The meeting was called to order at 10am by
Mayor Gosine. 1. Regular meeting held Jan. 28th. ARISING OUT OF THE MINUTES (1) Foxes - agreed that the cage be checked on a regular basis to see if a fox had been captured. (2) Lighthouse - things seem to be moving along now with the land ownership issue being addressed by Transport Canada. NORTH ATLANTIC/FORD/TANK FARM/MUNICIPAL PLAN AMENDMENT Mr. Kent explained the situation re the amendments required to change the municipal plan to allow for the storage tanks. These amendments were adopted on a motion by Deputy Mayor Pendergast and seconded by Councillor Kent. Motion carried. The next step now is to publish the notice twice re having public consultation. It was agreed that the public consultation hearing would be at 7:30pm on Apr. 10th. SOPHIE MEYER/PONY A letter was received in reply to the one we sent to Ms. Meyer regarding her pony and the problems the manure is causing neighbours in the area. Ms. Meyer asked for an extension of time (in excess of the 21 days we had given her to take action) in order to launch an appeal. It was decided that an extension to Mar. 25th be allocated. This was covered in a motion by Councillor Pitts and seconded by Councillor Kent. Motion carried. Page 2 STREET LIGHTS A petition was received from residents in the Church Road area requesting a street light. It was decided that a light would be placed on this street. Also it was decided that the area in Court House Hill (request from Terry King), be checked also re having a street light erected there. The motion for the street light for Church Road was made by Deputy Mayor Pendergast and seconded by Councillor Pitts. Motion carried. QUARRY PERMIT From Pyramid Construction Ltd. was approved on a motion by Councillor Kent and seconded by Deputy Mayor Pendergast. Motion carried. It was noted that this is the same location as the previous permit. FINANCIAL REPORT - Approved as presented. TOWN MANAGER'S REPORT It was mentioned that there are many water
related problems this winter mostly due to people running their water to
prevent freezeups. Mr. Kent explained that radio announcements were made
warning people about this practice, and urging them to stop. ARENA REPORT - Approved as presented. Mayor Gosine reported that there will be a major fund raiser in Cambridge, Ontario in support of our arena soon. COUNCILLORS' CONCERNS (1) Councillor Kent suggested we make sure the public knows about our boil order and that it should be made known at least monthly to the general public. (2) Councillor Kent suggested we apply again to the Multi-Stewardship Program for funding perhaps to fence our dumpsite, or for some other environment project. (3) Councillor Kent suggested we write the new minister of WST regarding some priority paving required for Bell Island roads. Page 3 (4) Councillor Kent touched on dilapidated houses, car wrecks and our annual cleanup. There being no further business to discuss,
the meeting adjourned at 11:10am on a motion by Councillor Pitts and
